The DSS standard (digital speech standard) features a simple, quick and standardized format for digital speech recordings. It was developed and introduced by Grundig as a joint project of the IVA (International Voice Association comprising Grundig, Olympus and Philips) in 1995. Thanks to a special compression technology .dss reduces memory requirements and data transfer times to 1/12 of their size (10 min/1MB) whilst offering optimum audio quality and low power demands. High audio voice quality combined with high compression rates make for efficient management of audio files in the workflow system as well as high performance email transfer. DSS features the current voice standard for professional applications ("MP3 for voice"). This standard was further developed to become DSSPro in 2007. This latest version brings with it two new enhancements: the already high audio quality was optimized further through 16 kHz scanning while an encryption algorithm was supported for the first time. The new DSSPro standard provides, as with the DSS, a simple, quick and standardized format for digital speech recordings. The special compression technology allows users to record small files which is important when archiving or sending dictations over the dictation network, or by e-mail outside the office. Like for all DSS voice files a proper program is required to process DSSPro files. This is offered by leading manufacturers of high capacity dictation management software. To expand support for voice files, the International Voice Association (IVA) now for the first time provides a DSS player for both DSS formats. It can be downloaded free of charge from the IVA members' websites at (link to www.grundig-gbs.com). DigtaSoft contains the full range of DSSPro functionality as DSSPro consists of much more than a mere voice recording standard - it also offers an extensive range of workflow management functions.
