Grundig Business Systems presents DigtaSoft HL7 Service for hospitals

HL7 interface allows secure exchange of patient data during dictation generation

DigtaSoft HL7-Service

Bayreuth, 12 August 2015 – By adding DigtaSoft HL7 Service, Grundig Business Systems (GBS) is expanding its range of document generation solutions designed specially for clinics and hospitals. On the basis of this standard protocol for the medical sector, information can be securely exchanged for dictation generation. The DigtaSoft HL7 Service is a server-based database application that can interact with any HL7 communication server or directly with the Hospital Information System (HIS). The HL7 interface is used to prepare patient data for the dictation system and send notifications about generated dictations to the HIS.

For work with mobile dictation devices, DigtaSoft HL7 Service ensures that each dictation device automatically receives individual patient data for each physician or wing from the HIS. It needs only be connected to a docking station. “This allows physicians to select the patients directly on their dictation devices and dictate for the selected patient’s file,” says GBS Managing Director Roland Hollstein. The physician’s dictations are also transferred to the HIS through the docking station, updating the patient list.

Because the data is saved with the dictation, it is also available to the medical transcription service for quick, reliable dictation assignment. This saves a significant amount of work because medical typing pools can find dictations substantially faster, using the patient name instead of the dictation number, for instance. This ensures unambiguous and highly efficient patient assignment during dictation and transcription, even over mobile dictation devices. Information about the status of the dictations or the selected document templates can be transferred directly to the HIS through DigtaSoft HL7 Service. “DigtaSoft HL7 Service provides hospitals an economically attractive link between dictation solutions and the HIS,” says Hollstein.

Grundig solutions for health services
Grundig Business Systems (GBS) and its certified partners serve as a one-stop provider for hospitals and physicians in the area of speech processing, supplying everything from consulting to proven dictation device hardware to dictation management software to project management and complete life cycle service. “In these various areas, we are constantly developing new solutions and searching for innovative approaches that will make the document generation process even more efficient,” says Hollstein.

That is why April saw, in addition to DigtaSoft HL7 Service, GBS’s launch of new products in the area of hardware: the Digta SonicMic 3 USB dictation microphone and the Digta SonicMic 3 Classic. These devices are equipped with push-buttons and have been optimized for stationary dictation and speech recognition. The microphones have an interface with the DigtaSoft Voice and Dragon NaturallySpeaking speech recognition applications. Nuance, the leading provider of speech recognition solutions, has already tested both microphones and given them the highest rating – six stars – for recognition precision with Dragon. Both microphones make it unnecessary to learn the most important speech recognition commands because the software is controlled with the push-buttons, requiring only minimal thumb movements.

The Digta SonicMic 3 is also equipped with an optical trackpad with which the user can navigate the screen. “This option has proven itself many times over in smartphones, and so we decided to use it as a control element,” Hollstein says.
